The personal journey behind READIO International

Where the Story Began

A Story That Gave Birth to READIO

Dr. Lisanwork Honsebo Founder, READIO

This is not a story about success. It is a story about access, dignity, and service.

I lost my father when I was still a baby.

I was raised by my mother alone — strong, faithful, and resilient —
while caring for ten children. I am the youngest, and the first doctor in my family.

As a child, I witnessed something that never left me.
When my mother suffered a serious injury, access to medical care was distant, delayed, and uncertain.

That moment shaped my life.

A Dream Not of Success, But of Access

I did not dream of wealth or recognition.

I dreamed of a future where no mother, no child, and no family would suffer simply because they lived far from help.

I dreamed of access — to healthcare, dignity, and hope.

Becoming a Doctor

Years later, I graduated as a medical doctor — not alone,
but beside the woman who carried me through every hardship.

Becoming a doctor was not the end of the journey.

It was the beginning of responsibility.

The Choice

Many doctors choose comfort. I chose communities that others could not reach. I worked where roads were broken, water was unsafe, and healthcare was absent. That choice gave birth to READIO.

Showing Up Where Help Was Missing

Birth of READIO

READIO was founded to respond to real suffering — not from behind desks, but on the ground. What started as one doctor and a few volunteers grew into a community-led humanitarian movement. READIO exists because dignity should not depend on geography.

This Story Is Not About Me

It is about the people we serve —
and the future we are building together.
